Year Round Season
Competitive teams are formed in the late spring/early summer of each year through open tryouts and evaluations. Players are accepted to their team for a seasonal year (10-month) commitment beginning August 1 to May 31st the following year. Although its a 10 month season the players will have summer sessions with their teams in preparation for the fall match season.
The Competitive program requires travel to local, regional and/or out-of-state tournaments. Individual teams compete at various levels depending upon the competitive needs of the players involved.
U11-U19 Teams
In the U11-U19 age groups, there is a first team (NL), a second team (RL) and a third team (DA) in each age group, when numbers allow. In the U9-U10 age groups, there is a first team (Blue), a second team (White) and a third team (Gray) in each age group, when numbers allow. This level is referred to as the DA or "Development Academy". Whichever the case, players have made a decision to play competitive soccer and are placed based upon their passion, needs and ability.

Player Placement
Every year in late April and May, soccer clubs conduct their annual tryouts to place players on a team based on their abilities. Those tryouts take hundreds of man hours to look at hundreds, possibly thousands of players in a short period of time. While majority of the players receive an invite and are placed appropriately, many fall through the cracks, some cannot attend these tryouts, and many are too nervous to show their true ability.
When we look at the athletes, we measure their technical and tactical abilities along with their physical and psychological attributes. A tryout period does not allow us to fully rate players accurately. For these reasons, players will be observed throughout the entire year by their team Head Coach and Technical Director and Senior Staff at training sessions and games. They will then be consequently placed more accurately within the Rush system. Evaluations will be based on the previously mentioned components in addition to attendance, attitude, team chemistry, and consistency, to name a few.

Player Pathway
Our Competitive Program exists to allow any player, irrespective of ability, the opportunity to take their game to the height of their potential. Additional divisions within our Competitive Program give our top level players more elite playing opportunities. For our top players, their goals should include playing on their respective Rush Academy NL "National League" teams, Rush Select XI Regional teams and Rush Select XI National teams in addition to playing opportunities through our partner club, Virginia Rush, in to MLS Next or GA for high performing players.
For our club, our goal is to push our players to reach that "next level" by allowing our members as many opportunities within our local club and national Rush network to improve their overall game all while providing an unparalleled youth soccer experience.
